FIRE, ICE AND THE BIG CAVE
Hiding in plain sight, in British Columbia’s Wells Gray Provincial Park, is a newly discovered amazing cave that just may be Canada’s biggest! starting at $397 / Person ($416.85 with tax) |

Your "Big Cave" adventure begins at our private airfield in beautiful Clearwater, British Columbia. You will be greeted by our friendly staff, receive your boarding passes followed by an overview of The Big Cave scenic flight and introduction to Wells Gray Park. Then it's pre-flight photos, inflight safety briefing and boarding of our comfortable aircraft for your amazing 70-80 minute flight over Wells Gray Provincial Park.
Upon take off, you will see the town of Clearwater and its unique location in the Thompson-Nicola region. In the centre of town is the picturesque Dutch Lake with its groomed sandy beach (a great place to go for a dip after your flight).
Heading southward, we cross the confluence of the Clearwater and Thompson Rivers and see how Clearwater got its name. Crossing over the new centre of town, you will see Raft Mountain on the right and the Clearwater River below. The Clearwater is Canada’s premiere whitewater river where you will see its wild characteristics and the world famous “Kettle” section of the river.
Heading northbound, we cruise by the Trophy, Table and Battle mountains. Cross over the Myrtle River and over the Kostal Cone Volcano. The Kostal Cone is made of fragmented and solidified lava called cinder and its summit contains a bowl-shaped crater created by the ejected cinders.
Just a few minutes later, hiding in plain sight, is the cave that just may be Canada’s biggest! Sitting high up in a remote mountain valley, the cave has an entrance the size of a soccer field, 180+ meters deep (560+ feet) and a possible length of over 2 kilometres (1.25 miles). With snow at the bottom and a massive black void staring back from the depths, it is absolutely awe-inspiring. The Cave is a "striped karst", marble interbedded with rock units creating a spectacular striped look to the surrounding glacier covered landscape. It is the largest known cave of its type.
Leaving the cave, you will soar over the majestic Helmcken Falls, the centre piece of Wells Gray. Helmcken is the largest waterfall in the park and 4th tallest in Canada. The sheer power and volume is mind-blowing. Heading towards Clearwater, you get a closer look at the unique volcanic features of the Clearwater River. Keep your eyes peeled for rafters battling the river. Upon landing, we will have a quick post-flight briefing, checkout some photos and help you with any details that make your stay in Clearwater even better. You are welcome to check out our Gift Shop, have a beverage on our large patio or just sit back and take in the sights and sounds at the airfield.
Formed by fire and carved by ice; see spectacular mountains, majestic waterfalls, wilderness lakes, ancient volcanoes and whitewater rivers . Be one of the first to see "The Big Cave", a colossus, ancient marvel. It's a once in a lifetime sight. Limited seats -- book early!

Amazing Bird's Eye Views! 5 Stars
"My girlfriend and I chose Wells Gray Air to get a taste of Wells Gray Provincial Park as part of our West Coast Trip through Alberta and BC. As we were pretty tight on time, this was a great way to see most of this vast park. The views of the mountains, rivers, and water falls from above were phenomenal. Rock was a very competent pilot and took off and landed much more smoothly than some commercial flights that I've been on." Skonkwurks from Canada |
An Awesome Flight! 5 Stars
"We were so glad that we did not do one of those standard flights recommended by our travel agent! The flight with Rock was so personal, no mass tourism on the unique airfield! Hè talked us through all the sights we saw, made us feel safe, and made us feel very at ease from the beginning up until we left. Thank you again Rock for a wonderful experience!!
